About Dr. Lenihan
Kristin Lenihan, Ph.D.
Overwhelmingly, research suggests that the stronger the relationship between the client and therapist, the better the outcome of the therapy. Feeling like you can trust your therapist, feel safe with her, and form a real alliance is essential to stepping out of your comfort zone and taking the risks that will ultimately lead to positive growth and change. Therefore, my goal at Revitalize Psychotherapy is not to simply diagnose and treat, but to truly connect with my clients: be curious about what makes them unique, accept them without judgment, learn from them, celebrate their strengths, and support their progress.
Once this relationship is established, I work collaboratively with my individual clients to tailor a treatment that works for them, taking into consideration their background, goals, and present situation. I use an integrative approach, incorporating techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), psychodynamic approaches and polyvagal theory, among others. In my work with couples, I am a strong proponent of attachment-based theories and employ emotion-focused therapy (EFT) as well as Gottman techniques.
